Beyond Chess Puzzle 007 Solution

A classic Beyond Chess tactic is to put the king in check, and then remove the only avenue of retreat to make it mate. Pro tip: Leave a square next to your opponent’s king, giving them a false sense of security. Then you can shift the square away once you put them in check.

Puzzle 007 offers a classic example of this tactic. Black’s queen moves from c2 to c3, placing white’s king in check, with only one move to make, or so it seems! Then, black shifts the square from b5 to c5, removing the avenue of retreat. Checkmate!
